Bike rack from recycled
materials wins contest

BY ALEX PAL

A bike rack design featuring locally available materials won the design contest sponsored by the FU Department of Architecture and Fine Arts during the FU Expo 2013.

The design of Raian Rey Docuyan and Mohner Inoferio of Entheos IT, titled “Love Nature as you Love Yourself,” won the nod of City Administrator William Ablong, College of Agriculture Dean Mark Espedilla and Negros Oriental Biker’s Association Director Romualdo Seneris over several other designs submitted by bike enthusiasts.

Anna Koosman, a faculty member of the DAFA, who coordinated the contest, said Docuyan and Inoferio’s design won for using recycled tires as the main materials, the bike rack is covered, protecting the bikes from rain, and the design is straightforward and easy to use.

Ablong said that after he saw the beautiful bike rack designs, it is possible that the city government may soon ask the City Council to require stores to install bike racks as part of the requirements for a Mayor’s Permit.

The design will be used as the conceptual driver for the final built bike rack that will be installed at the FU campus.*AP
