Archery coach turns 90
BY RENE GENOVE

Olympic archery coach Dionisio Flores, Dumaguete’s archery legend-coach who trained local archers some of whom won international titles, turned 90 on Feb. 28.

Flores is known for popularizing the sport of target archery in Silliman University, Dumaguete City, sometime in the early 70s.

Some of those he mentored joined the Olympics, Asia games and SEA games were Jennifer Chan, Joy Marino, Eunice Delfin, Joan Chan-Tabanag and Roel Merto, who became national and international archery players.

Meanwhile, NegOr pride woodpusher Nayk Segismar captured the coveted chess crown held recently at the Integrated Business Center, Bayawan City.

Segismar emerged superior in the tiebreak points and pocketed the P5,000 plus championship trophy. Rudell Siglos and Jeffry Alcantara settled for second and third placed respectively. Siglos received P3,000 while Alcantara pocketed P1,000.

Fourth placer Gemon Tolentino received P800, and FIDE Master Eden Diano placed fifth.*RG
