Fires damage P2.1M
Dumaguete property

BY RENE GENOVE

Seven fire incidents have occurred in Dumaguete City since January, and had damaged around P2.1 million in properties, Supt. Arnulfo Sayson, Bureau of Fire Protection marshal, said yesterday.

Sayson said these incidents are categorized as index, or those with more than P10,000 in damages, and non-index for less than P10,000.

He said last year’s fire losses amounted to only P943,000, with the 19 incidents that occurred. Usual causes of fire accidents are electrical, like negligence in unplugging electrical appliances, and power overloading.

A bike rack design featuring locally available materials won the design contest sponsored by the FU Department of Architecture and Fine Arts during the FU Expo 2013.

The design of Raian Rey Docuyan and Mohner Inoferio of Entheos IT, titled “Love Nature as you Love Yourself,” won the nod of City Administrator William Ablong, College of Agriculture Dean Mark Espedilla and Negros Oriental Biker’s Association Director Romualdo Seneris over several other designs submitted by bike enthusiasts.

Anna Koosman, a faculty member of the DAFA, who coordinated the contest, said Docuyan and Inoferio’s design won for using recycled tires as the main materials, the bike rack is covered, protecting the bikes from rain, and the design is straightforward and easy to use.
