The provincial government of Negros Occidental yesterday awarded cash incentives to the 477 athletes who won medals for the province in the 2013 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet held in Roxas City, Capiz.

A press release from the Capitol said Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. turned over a total of P733,000 to the athletes with the gold medalists receiving P1,2000 each, while the silver medalists were given P800 each and the bronze medalists, P600 each.

Addressing the athletes, their trainers, and parents, the governor said the province is proud of their performance at the 2013 WVRAA and encouraged them to continue striving for sports excellence.

Garciniego wins  
master bowler plum

LJP Trading/NPBC Tamaraw starter and Hernand Garciniego of DAILY STAR captured the master bowler title in the 1st Bacolod City National High School Class ’85 Pirates Non-rated Bowling Spectacle at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

Garciniego, who finished 10th overall in the tournament’s top 10 bowlers after the eliminations, led the two-game battle for the title to earn a twice-to-beat advantage in the final round with a total score of 243 points, followed Roger Flores of Flores Team with 227 pts.

Also contenders for the title were Oscar Clenen of Joe and Joe Romano Team and teammate Edjie Balayo with 214 and 213 points, respectively.
