The suspect in the brutal killing of a pension house owner in Bacolod City last month was arrested in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, at about 4 p.m. yesterday, when he and his companion attempted to rob an Indian national.
Arrested was Ryan Pasilan, 24, of Purok Cabugwason, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod , City Police Officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel told the DAILY STAR.
Police Officer 1 Joemarie Arboleda, desk officer on duty of the Cadiz City police, said a concerned citizen reported at about 10 p.m. that two men, one of them identified as Pasilan, attempted to rob an Indian national near the SM hypermarket.
Arboleda said that when the policemen arrived and arrested Pasilan and his companion, they resisted and were able to escape. A follow-up operation was then conducted that eventually led to the arrest of Pasilan in Brgy Zone 4, he said.
Arboleda also said they coordinated with the Bacolod City Police and checked if Pasilan, who initially gave a different name, was facing other crimes and found out that he has a standing arrest warrant.
Pasilan's arrest warrant was for illegal possession of firearms issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Manuel Cardinal, who set his bail at P50,000, police records showed.
Ordaniel said that Pasilan had already admitted to the members of the Bacolod City Police Trackers team, who picked him up in Cadiz City last night, that he was responsible for the killing of Karmen Galo, 84, owner of Karmen's Pension House at Lopez Jaena Street, Bacolod City, last month.
Pasilan was positively identified by four witnesses, all employees of the Karmen's Pension House, as the last person they saw at the establishment before they discovered the lifeless body.
Pasilan's three companions, who included a man and two women, had argued with Galo when she refused to allow them to rent one of the hotel rooms, the police said.
Charges for robbery with homicide were filed against Pasilan before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.*APN
