2 brothers
sentenced to 14 years

Two brothers were sentenced yesterday to suffer eight to 14 years imprisonment for the theft of cable wires owned by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. six years ago.

Found guilty beyond reasonable doubt by Regional Trial Court Branch 51 Judge Anita Chua were brothers Elyson and Eliseo Palacios.

They were arrested by members of the Task Force PLDT on Sept. 15, 2008, while cutting P100,000 worth of cable wires at Hacienda Guanzon in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, court records show.

The brothers denied the accusations and pointed to the passenger of their tricycle as the one responsible for cutting the cable wires.

In her ruling, Chua said the court cannot accept the defense of denial of the accused.

Elyson Palacios said they will file an appeal because it is unfair for them to suffer in jail for a crime they did not commit.*APN
