A Hawaiian luau for
Judith Navarro Visitacion was once a school teacher here when she decided years ago, to seek her fortune abroad to give her family a good future. Through sheer hard work and determination, she managed to put up her own thriving business in the States that enabled her to help fellow Filipinas abroad find work.
The sacrifices she went through during those long lonely years finally paid off. Her daughter, Joanne, is now a successful entrepreneur here with a sprawling house in a nice subdivision. Judith’s other kids are also engaged in their own business ventures or careers. In the meantime, Judith met and married successful American businessman Marcel Johnson.
And so, during Judith’s 67th birthday recently, Joanne and her siblings decided to throw a grand Hawaiian luau for their beloved Mom, who had just arrived from Los Angeles in time for her party. Joanne’s lanai was converted into a Hawaiian Village, complete with coconut trees and lush plants and flowers for the occasion. Guests were mostly family and close friends from way back when, who came in their gorgeous luau outfits.
As we arrived, we could hear the sounds of the “Heartwarmers” playing the old favorites. The delectable aroma of grilled steaks, crabs and prawns filled the air, making our stomachs growl with hunger. There was even a halo-halo bar set up by younger daughter Judileen.
We all enjoyed participating in the various games where even the guys had to don Hawaiian ladies’ costumes and dance like crazy! Judith and daughters Joann, Judileen and Gigi performed the Hawaii Five O dance. Grandkids Ysa, Tinka, Gabriel, Anya, Eena and Raprap danced Gangnam style, and even all the guests got off their feet to dance the famous dance steps. Everybody had a riotous time dancing with live DJ Gino Grey from Los Angeles.
To the best mom ever, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUDITH!*
