Mayor confirms brother
undergoes heart bypass

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday confirmed that his older brother, Prospero Leonardia, who is running for councilor, underwent a heart bypass procedure last week in Manila, and is now recovering.

Leonardia said Pros had a valve replacement, and the good news is he is on the road to full recovery.

“We would like to solicit prayers of friends and supporters, and beg for indulgence and understanding, because with that condition, his campaign movements will be affected,” the mayor said.

Leonardia said most of those who have undergone similar operations, like former Bacolod Mayor Jose Montalvo and former councilor Babes Estrella, end up as good as new.

Pros, who was reluctant to run for councilor, was persuaded to do so because he has always been “a man of service by heart,” the mayor said.

In fact, Pros has proven this in the past with the many projects that he has been involved with that led to the improvement of the physical and beautification aspects of Bacolod, the mayor said.

“So we can tell our people that Pros has the heart to serve and when he is well after the elections, definitely he can be of better service to the people,” he added.*CGS
