Riding high on Joemel Paderog’s outside sniping and eventual Most Valuable Player Rodel Canino’s consistent scoring, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Team A Davies Phils. beat CSA-B Choi Sportswear, 82-73 in the final game to capture the Class A crown of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at the West Negros Gym, Sunday.

Unbeaten after nine games, UNO-R asserted its dominance with a 25-15 first quarter lead as five of its players scored four or ore points led by Paderog and Cedric Eslabon.

UNO-R extended the lead at halftime, 46-31, as Canino shot six points, while Paderog added five points to his credit in the second quarter.

100 students set to join  
BCAN summer clinic

The Basketball Coaches Association of Negros-sponsored basketball clinic scheduled on April 1 to 12 has solicited favorable response from young basketeers in the province.

As of press time, 100 students have confirmed their participation and more are expected to enlist, a press release from BCAN said.

The young aspirants, aged 10 to 12 years old, are from various schools in Negros whose coaches are members of BCAN, its president Bobby Tee said.

Sagay, Escalante boxers win
in Sinigayan tourney

The cities of Sagay and Escalante shared top billings with four and three gold medals, respectively, during the 17th Sinigayan Invitational Amateur Boxing Tournament held recently at the Sagay City plaza.

JasonReb Magbanua led Sagay’s winning team with a win over Jay Paul Beguiras of Escalante in the 32 kgs., while Paul Telan prevailed over Rodgie Sta. Ana, also from Escalante in 42 kgs.

Arnold Jetajobe gifted Sagay its third gold in the competition as he turned back Ronnie Campos of Don Salvador Benedicto in 46 kgs., while Rafael Sueño won against Arman Alpar of Cadiz City in the 53 kgs. to complete Sagay’s gold medal haul.
