San Juan Rep. Joseph Victor Ejercito Estrada yesterday welcomed the support of business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco and his allies in Negros Occidental, for his senatorial bid.
“I am very grateful for Ambassador Cojuangco’s support and as previously promised, if elected, I will be the voice of Negros in the Senate,” Ejercito Estrada said, in reaction to reports of the business tycoon’s endorsement of his candidacy.
Cojuangco allies in Negros Occidental said the Nationalist People‘s Coalition founder, during the weekend, has asked them to support the senatorial bids of Ejercito Estrada, Bam Aquino, Chiz Escudero, Loren Legarda, Grace Poe, Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Jack Enrile.
He asked us to support the seven, and is leaving the choice of the rest of the senatorial candidates to us, said two of Cojuangco’s allies, who were among those who met with him during the weekend, but asked not to be identified.
Cojuangco was in Negros Occidental to beef up support for Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr., who is running for governor, and the rest of his team, Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Peña said Sunday.
Ejercito Estrada, who has placed consistently in the top 12 of senatorial surveys, said support from local NPC-LP leaders will boost his bid.
Cojuangco is a very close friend of his father, former President Joseph Estrada, he added.*CPG
