About 3,000 Gawad Kalinga volunteers are building 35 houses in Mabinay, Negros Oriental until tomorrow, in line with the simultaneous nationwide housing challenge, a government press release said.
The volunteers form part of the 100,000-strong Army of Hope Builders, who signed up for the 2013 GK Bayani Challenge from March 23-27. Of the 37 sites in 33 provinces, Mabinay town is the recipient for Negros Oriental, and 35 two-storey row houses will be built for shanty dwellers and displaced families of tropical storm “Pablo” in Barangay Poblacion.
GK project coordinator Joseph Ceriales urged youths in the province to volunteer and engage in varied nation-building activities, like the construction and refurbishing of homes and schools, education sessions for children, tree-planting, clean-up drives, and health missions, the press release also said.*
