Driver rapes, kills
child in Victorias
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A pair of slippers recovered at the crime scene, led to the identification and arrest of a pedicab driver, believed responsible for the molestation and killing of a 6-year-old girl, whose body was found Sunday in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

Supt. Alexander Munoz, Victorias police chief, yesterday said the body of Kim Marie Canete, 6, was found under the bed of the suspect, Ricky Gentilizo, 22, at about 11 a.m. Sunday, in a makeshift hut in New Barrio, Brgy. 16-A, Victorias City, when he was invited for questioning.

The body was wrapped in transparent plastic, when discovered by the Victorias police.

The result of an autopsy by Dr. Noel Martinez of the PNP Crime Laboratory showed that the victim died of asphyxia by suffocation, and hemorrhage due to genital laceration.

Initial investigations by the police showed that the victim had been reported missing by her parents, Wilford and Kempee, Saturday morning, who said she was no longer at their side when they woke up.

Muñoz said a pair of slippers, left at the comfort room of the victim's house, was later identified to belong to the suspect. This prompted the Victorias police probers to invite Gentilizo for questioning, and he later verbally confessed involvement in the crime, he added.

He said the victim, who was on her way to the comfort room, which is separated from their house, may have been waylaid by the suspect, that morning.

Police investigations also showed that the suspect had confessed to having hit the victim in her face and mouth, before the molestation took place.

He also reportedly said the child was still breathing when he wrapped her in plastic.

Rape with homicide charges were filed yesterday by the police against Gentilizo, a neighbor of the victim, before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Negros Occidental.*GPB
