Four cops get awards

Two police commissioned officers and two others assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office were conferred the Medalya ng Kagalingan by the Police Regional Office 6, in recognition of their recent anti-drug accomplishments in Victorias City, that led to the recovery of unlicensed firearms, explosives and prohibited drugs.

The NOPPO medal recipients were Supt. Antonietto Canete, NOPPO deputy provincial director for Administration and Operation, Senior Inspector Joemarie Occeno, chief of the NOPPO Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force, Police Officer 2 Nick Dioso and P01 Leonel Pacete.

Canete and Occeno led the simultaneous anti-drug operations in Victorias City, in coordination with Supt. Alexander Muñoz, that led to the arrest of a suspected distributor of shabu and two others, as well as the recovery of a fragmentation grenade, a .45 caliber pistol, a homemade 380 caliber revolver with ammunition, P10,000 worth of prohibited drugs, and P3,390 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of prohibited drugs, police records show.

Munoz said the arrest of Frederick Legada, who, he claimed, has a distributor of shabu, and two others, may temporarily cripple drug peddling activities of their group in Victorias City. *GPB
