Ligutom urged to resolve
row on workers’ benefits

The retrenched workers of Shakey’s Pizza Robinsons Place Bacolod, also known as Island Pizza, yesterday urged the regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment Ponciano Ligutom to act on the Motion for Reconsideration filed by the management on his order to pay them P1,119,305.05 for underpaid service charges and other benefits.

Edbert Patria, president of the United Employees of Shakey’s Pizza-National Federation of Labor Unions-Kilusang Mayo Uno, said they wish Ligutom can resolve immediately the motion filed by the management and issue a Writ of Execution so the workers can get their underpaid service charges, 13th month pay, and overtime pay.

Biz sector to meet
over fake currency

Businessmen, hoteliers and restaurant owners are set to meet today to discuss the alleged proliferation of fake P500 bills in Bacolod City and other areas in Negros Occidental.

On Tuesday, a concerned citizen surrendered P150,000 worth of fake P500 bills to Negros Occidental Provincial Police Officer-in charge ,Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz who said they received reports that about P3 million in fake P500 bills are circulating in Negros Occidental, especially in Bacolod City.

Bobby Ortega, president of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Negros Occidental, said they have cautioned their members against the counterfeit money.

AT JOBS FAIR
90 hired on the spot

Ninety applicants were hired on the spot in the Labor Day jobs fair conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment in Negros Occidental at Bacolod SM City, North Terminal Area, Wednesday DOLE provincial director Ma. Victoria Mondragon, said yesterday.

Mondragon said they have 2,505 registered applicants, 2,049 of whom qualified for the 34,009 jobs available.

Some of those hired will be working as layout artists, cahiers, waiters and cooks, a government press release said.
