AT JOBS FAIR
90 hired on the spot

Ninety applicants were hired on the spot in the Labor Day jobs fair conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment in Negros Occidental at Bacolod SM City, North Terminal Area, Wednesday DOLE provincial director Ma. Victoria Mondragon, said yesterday.

Mondragon said they have 2,505 registered applicants, 2,049 of whom qualified for the 34,009 jobs available.

Some of those hired will be working as layout artists, cahiers, waiters and cooks, a government press release said.

Last year, DOLE recorded 4,000 applicants, which is almost 50 percent higher than this year’s registrants.

Mondragon said that last year they had five days for the pre-registration of applicants while this year they only had three days, and this might be one of the reasons why fewer job seekers came to the event.

She also said that of the 2,049 qualified applicants, 1,402 were referred for further interview. *LTG
