Comelec allays fear
of systems failure

The Commission on Elections has assured voters that it has put in place measures that will avert possible system failures in the May 13 elections.

Remlane Tambuang of the Comelec said they have, so far, completed the operational and technical preparations and back-up plans for the elections, especially on the possibility of power failures.

All provincial, city and town election officers were also tasked to prepare their back-up plans, Tambuang said.

2 men in white at Vatican
as former pope returns

VATICAN CITY – Two months after his historic resignation, Benedict XVI returned by helicopter yesterday to the Vatican, where he will live in a former monastery in an unprecedented arrangement that will see a pope and a former pope both housed in the tiny state.

It was a low-key return for the 86-year-old Benedict, now pope emeritus, who looked extremely frail at his last public appearance in March and said upon his resignation that he would live "hidden from the world."

Benedict left by helicopter from Castel Gandolfo outside Rome, the papal lakeside residence where he has been staying since he stepped down at the end of February, and touched down in the Vatican at around 1430 GMT.

Archbishop launches
book on Catholic Vote

Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona launched his 74-page booklet, titled “The Catholic Vote, Top 30 Questions”, and said it could serve as a manual for group discussion of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting in its continuing education activities.

He said the contents of the booklet must be reflected upon even though that “may open Pandora’s Box” in order to confront and know oneself.

The booklet is a three-part thematic reflection “On the Catholic Life, On the Catholic Vote, and On Catholic Public Square”.
