Only DSWD can delist
beneficiaries from 4Ps

BY RENE GENOVE

President Benigno Aquino III, during his recent visit in Negros Oriental deplored the practice of some candidates of threatening to delist Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps) beneficiaries if they fail to help them win in the May 13 polls.

Persistent reports that some politicians, particularly mayors have threatened some beneficiaries of 4Ps with being delisted have apparently reached the ears of the President.

Aquino urged the public to report any politician who uses 4Ps for partisan ends as this is an indication that the concerned official deserves more than ever to exit public service.

He said only the Department of Social Welfare and Development has the authority to delist any recipient, not because of partisan reasons, but for unjustified failure to comply with the requirements of the program.

Aquino reminded his rapt audience in Dumaguete City that 4Ps is an anti-poverty program sponsored by the national government and was noted to be so successful that instead of delisting the beneficiaries, the administration plans to enroll more as part of its expansion.

It is therefore inappropriate for any local politician to associate the program to his election and to intimidate the recipients, he said.*RG
