More than 200 barangay officials in Bacolod City have declared their full support to Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, mayoralty candidate of Grupo Progreso, in the May 13 elections.
More than 30 barangay heads gathered and declared their open support for the mayoralty bid of Sayson Friday and more than 200 barangay kagawads also came in droves Thursday to show their support for Sayson, a former colleague, a press release from Grupo Progreso said.
The declarations came on the heels of the public announcement of Kagawad Charlie Pabular of Barangay Taculing, that he is supporting the mayoralty bid of Sayson, after renouncing his support to Sayson’s political opponent, Monico Puentevella.
Pabular dropped Puentevella for alleged unresolved issues and brought his whole machinery to the camp of Sayson, the release said.
Officers and members of KAOSO, Inc. (Katilingban Sang Mga Organisasyon Sang Imol sa Syudad, Inc.), also came out with a statement of support for the whole slate of Grupo Progreso Saturday whose mayoralty standard bearer is Sayson.
KAOSO, Inc. is a federation of urban poor urbanizations, majority of whose members are beneficiaries of the city housing program and the Community Mortgage Program, the release said.
The urban poor are close to Sayson because while he was a city councilor, he held the chairmanship of the Committee on Housing and had authored the ordinance declaring Urban Poor Day every December of each year”, the group also said.
Earlier, Noel Palencia, spokesman of three CMP organizations in Brgy. Tangub, also expressed support for Sayson.
Palencia said Sayson was instrumental in negotiating with the Development Bank of the Philippines that eventually reduced the cost of their on-site CMP program from P1,000.00 per square meters to only P300.00 per square meter.
Sayson said “I am thankful for the outpouring of support. Those are unexpected and I am glad that they all came out openly to support my mayoralty bid.”
With the outpouring of open and active support for his mayoralty bid, it is getting quite clear that victory is just around the corner, the press release added.*
