CSR backs guv, Ibañez

The Christians for Social Reforms Inc. yesterday expressed support for re-electionist Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and his running mate Board Member Melvin Ibañez for the vice-governor post.

In its statement of support a copy of which was sent to the DAILY STAR, the CSR Inc. said it believes in the Negros First Program of Marañon because they were among the beneficiaries of assistance from the province.

Fr. Sol Puentespina, CSR-Negros coordinator, said they received sheep from the province which they dispersed to their members in Isabela town and Himamaylan City, and their offspring were also distributed to other members.

He also said that through the support of Marañon, many of their farmers were able to plant vegetables that are out of season and they continue to produce tilapia in their fishponds because of the establishment of windmill at Sitio An-An, Brgy. Cabadiangan, Himamaylan City.

About 1,000 beneficiaries also benefited in the medical and dental mission conducted at Binalbagan town last year and Isabela town early this year, he also said.

He also said the Comprehensive Health Care Program of Marañon has assisted many poor people who have availed free hospitalization, adding that if this program will be stopped, many poor will suffer. He added that the creation of the cyber center is beneficial to Negros Occidental.

Because of these, CSR is sincere in its support for the candidacy of Marañon and Ibañez, he added. *LTG
