Mayor asks for
P19.9M add’l budget

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Congressman-elect and Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod for a supplemental budget of P19.9 million to fund the terminal leave benefits of outgoing officials and casual employees of the city, and for other expenses.

Leonardia said majority of the city-hired plantilla casuals had already processed their clearances to avail of their terminal leave benefits, as they expect possible termination of their services by the incoming administration.

He had already met with the casual employees and explained to them the circumstances they have to face because of the change in administration, he said.

Leonardia said the supplemental budget will enable the city government to finance the budgetary needs of majority of the casuals, if not all of them.

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said the request of the Mayor was not taken up yesterday since the chairman of the Committee on Finance was not present.

Sayson said that out of the P19.9 million he had requested, P11.3 million has been allocated for the terminal leave benefits of employees and officials under the City Mayor’s Office, while about P1.7 million has been allocated for the terminal leave benefits of outgoing councilors and their technical assistants including other officials.

The SP needs about P5 million to P6 million for the terminal leave benefits of some members and employees of the SP, including himself, but they were only given P1.3 million so there is a balance of P3.5 million, he said.

Sayson said he has instructed his staff to prioritize the rank and file employees before he applies for his terminal leave benefits.

About P4.5 million has been allocated for the productivity enhancement incentive, while the rest was for the overtime pay and night pay of the City Treasurer’s Office, and for the commemoration of the signing of the Charter of Bacolod.

Meanwhile, Leonardia said he will push for an enabling law supplementing the declaration of the city’s charter anniversary to be officially recognized on the 18th of June, when he gets to Congress.

Leonardia also said he will also work for the creation of another circumferential road connecting Brgy. Cabug and Bgry. Sum-ag, which will serve as an alternate route to the Sum-ag-Araneta highway.*CGS
