Paglaum plebiscite set Jan. 11

The Commission on Elections has scheduled the plebiscite for the ratification of the creation of Baragay Paglaum on January 11, 2014, Bacolod Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez said yesterday.

The previous Sangguniang Panlungsod had passed Appropriation Ordinance No. 09, Series of 2013, amounting to P5.1 million based on the request of former Mayor and now Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia for various expenses of the City Mayor’s Office.

Gemeno Ymballa, counsel for the petitioners, said they are thankful to Lopez for following up the schedule of the plebiscite with COMELEC.

Ymballa said the issue of Brgy. Paglaum will be discussed objectively with the residents of Brgy. Mansilingan, especially its benefits that will help both barangays work hand in hand towards attaining progress.

Ymballa said during the plebiscite, only the majority of the votes cast will prevail. He said he believes the voting population of Mansilingan is between 17,000 to 18,000.

He appealed to the residents of Mansilingan to look at the issue objectively and remove any political color which will only be counter-productive.*CGS
