P51.6-M insurance released

The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agrarian Reform has released P51.6 million from the Agricultural Insurance Program to several Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries in southern Negros Occidental, Edna Villaruel, Agrarian Reform officer 2, said yesterday.

Villaruel said the insurance program is carried out by DAR and DA through the Agrarian Production Credit Program.

It covers death, disability and accident claims, and farmers whose crops have been infested by pests or destroyed by calamities.

Villaruel also said the farmers who benefited from the insurance program were from the towns of La Castellana and Pontevedra and the cities of Kabankalan, Bago and La Carlota.

An additional P47.2 million is also set for release after an assessment process by the Provincial and Regional Offices of DAR, the agency reported yesterday.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported yesterday the distribution of P83,580 as crop indemnity claims to 28 farmers at the Kabankalan City Hall.*APN
