Hold polls before counting numbers

“Let the elections be held first before counting the numbers,” Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia yesterday urged Mayor Monico Puentevella and Abang Lingkod nominee Stephen Paduano or “Carapali Luwalhati,” following their group’s endorsement of a coalition candidate for Association of Barangay Council president in December.

Sixteen of the 24 barangay captains, who signed a manifesto endorsing rice trader and Tangub Barangay Captain Noli Villarosa for president of the ABC took their oath before Puentevella on Nov. 6.

Puentevella, had earlier claimed that the 24 Abang Lingkod barangay captains led by Paduano  are in addition to the 28 barangay captains presently allied with the Pamilya MKK, therefore enough to catapult Villarosa, their endorsed coalition barangay captain to the presidency of the ABC.

Leonardia said politicians are not even supposed to be participating in the affairs of the barangay. That puts anybody who is a politician talking about it, in a situation beyond norms.

“In effect, if you are talking about support and so on, it is like you are admitting that you are violating the norm of the barangays,” he said.

Vista Alegre Barangay Captain Lindy de Leon is said to be running for the ABC post in alliance with the Grupo Progreso of Leonardia.

Leonardia said De Leon has signified his intention to run for the ABC presidency against Villarosa.

The ABC post in the Sangguniang Panlungsod has to be defended by Puentevella so he can have a majority number in the council.

There are now four councilors allied with Pamilya MKK, three with the Magnificent Seven and six with Grupo Progreso.

Those who are allied with Pamilya MKK are Councilors Claudio Puentevella, Ana Marie Palermo, Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and Wilson Gamboa Jr., while those who ran under the Magnificent Seven are Councilors El Cid Familiaran, Sonya Verdeflor and Archie Baribar.

Councilors Alex Paglumotan, Carlos Jose Lopez, Roberto Rojas, Em Ang, Caesar Distrito and ABC president Mona Dia Jardin are allied with Grupo Progreso.*CGS
