Basketball protest vs.
USLS-IS dismissed

The Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association dismissed during a Board meeting yesterday, the protest filed against defending champion University of St. La Salle-Integrated School elementary basketball team.

A protest letter from St. John’s Institute, also signed by Bacolod Tay Tung High School and Trinity Christian School, asked the NOPSSCEA to act on USLS-IS violation of the 15-man maximum lineup when it fielded 16 players during the game against St. Benilde School and 18 players against Jack & Jill School.

Committee on Sports acting chairman Rev. Edwin Madlangbayan confirmed that the protest was dismissed, but requested that the details be held off until all the schools involved are properly informed.

JSY teams post wins  
in Fil-Sino basketball

JSY Countertrade nipped Huminova Tigers, 90-89, while JSY Transport routed AACI Transport, 93-69, to post contrasting victories in Monday's tussle in Class A of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 2nd Conference Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

Mark Binguan played hero for JSY Countertrade as he nailed a triple with less than a minute left to cut Huminova lead to 89-88 and put the pressure on the Tigers.

But the winning play belonged to Ritchie Militante who nailed two free throws with 13 seconds left for the marginal basket. Militante, earlier missed two free shots but redeemed himself when he got the offensive rebound for the winning play.

Pacquiao-Rios fight telecast
at BAYS, Villamonte Gym

Once again, Bacoleños will have the chance to watch a live telecast of the fight between boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios on Sunday at the BAYS Center in San Juan Street and at the Villamonte Gym in Brgy. Villamonte, all in Bacolod City.

Information from the city said giant screens will be put up in these two venues to accommodate boxing aficionados in the city to watch live via satellite the Pacquiao-Rios fight.

Several hotels and malls in Bacolod are also offering a pay-per-view telecast of the match. Previously, the provincial government of Negros Occidental and other local government units in the province also put up free public viewing for every Pacquiao fight.
