A man, was shot dead when he chased a suspected robber, in Purok Pepsi Zone 3 in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City, at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday.

The fatality was identified as Roy Dairo, 48, of Purok Pepsi Zone 3 in the barangay, by Senior Insp. Edgar Gulmatico, Station 3 chief.

He said Dairo was hit in his back and the bullet exited from his throat. He was brought to the Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician, Dr. Fritzi Juanillo.

Gulmatico told the DAILY STAR that they have already identified the suspect, but refused to give his the name, pending his arrest.

Investigation showed that the man broke into the house of Imari June Blanca, 25, in the purok at about 2:20 a.m., and took an iPhone, a wallet that contained P150 in cash, and some Japanese Yen.

The man was trying to escape, when he was seen and chased by Dairo, his son RK, and other residents, Gulmatico said.

The man shot Dairo with a firearm, of unknown caliber and fled.

An empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol recovered from the crime scene was turned over to the Provincial Crime Laboratory for examination, Gulmatico said.

In a television interview, RK said that the man asked them why they were chasing him, but later shot his father who was about 5 meters away from them.

Gulmatico said the suspect will be charged for murder and theft, before the City Prosecutor’s Office in Bacolod.*SGG
