Rams cripple Stingers with triples
After taking a 17-point beating in the second quarter as they failed to crack the University of St. La Salle’s interior defense, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos shifted the battle from the distance and drained a flurry of triples in the second half to clinch a 74-66 victory and take Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series of the NOPSSCEA men’s basketball at the USLS Coliseum last night.
A Francis John Parreño buzzer-beater trey at the end of the third quarter broke the 52-all deadlock and gave the Rams a three-point edge going into the payoff period.
The Rams opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back treys from Parreño and Jade Paul Calma, while Coleen Jude Testa drained another triple in the next possession to break the game wide open, 65-54, with 5:54 left in the game.
