Rams cripple Stingers with triples
to take Game 1of  best-of-3 finals

After taking a 17-point beating in the second quarter as they failed to crack the University of St. La Salle’s interior defense, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos shifted the battle from the distance and drained a flurry of triples in the second half to clinch a 74-66 victory and take Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series of the NOPSSCEA men’s basketball at the USLS Coliseum last night.

A Francis John Parreño buzzer-beater trey at the end of the third quarter broke the 52-all deadlock and gave the Rams a three-point edge going into the payoff period.

The Rams opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back treys from Parreño and Jade Paul Calma, while Coleen Jude Testa drained another triple in the next possession to break the game wide open, 65-54, with 5:54 left in the game.

Batch ’97 grabs
lead in bowlfest

Batch ’97 made 4,490 points after the third round to lead in the 2013 Negros Occidental High School Christmas Cup Inter-class Alumni Bowling Tournament at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

Batch ’97 headed by Karl Barbosa , scored 1,496 points in the third round to lead the tournament participated in by 31 teams.

Barbosa’s team took over from Class ’73 of Marilou Corriento, who slipped to fourth with 4,419 points after a 1,396-point score in the second round.

BCAN 35-Up games
resume at WNU

Province of Negros Occidental and UNAC will face each other at 1 p.m. today as the Provincial Tourism Office-sponsored 35 Up Open Basketball Tournament resumes at West Negros University gym, a press release from organizers said.

LLZ Homi Warriors and Police Pastors Basketball Club are scheduled at 2:30 p.m. and SeaOil and Talisay Basketball Athletic Club at 4 p.m.

The tournament organized by Basketball Coaches Association of Negros, is a follow-up to the BCAN Inter-Employees league that is now on its semifinal stage, the press release said.
