Four members of a family, most of them doctors, were charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition yesterday, before the City Prosecutor’s Office, after their house in Greenplains Subdivision in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, was raided Thursday.
Charged were Erwin, Earl, Engelbert, and Eldred Jr., all surnamed Jardinico. All are doctors, except Eldred Jr., Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, acting city director of the Bacolod City Police Office said yesterday.
He also said that one of the suspects, but he could not identify which, was a former doctor of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The police, however, failed to arrest them since they had vacated the house before the approval of the search warrant, he said.
The recovered M-16 rifle with a tampered serial number, 927 live M-16 rifle ammunition, 182 empty shells of an M-16 rifle, 26 magazines, and other gun kits, were turned over to Regional Trial Court, Branch 51 Judge Anita Guanzon-Chua, who issued the search warrant, he said.
Before they applied for a search warrant, the police had already verified with the Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Unit of the BCPO, that the guns allegedly in the possession of the Jardinicos are not licensed, except for a .45 caliber Taurus pistol.
Reports said the Jardinicos had allegedly threatened with guns some persons in Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental, over a land conflict.*SGG
