USLS elem boys team eyes
4th straight crown

A fourth straight NOPSSCEA title looms for the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School elementary boys’ volleyball team this weekend at the USLS Covered Court as the squad advanced to the finals by beating Queen of Peace School in the semifinals and earning a twice to beat advantage.

The Carl Barredo-mentored young La Sallian spikers will face the winner between QPS and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos after the latter prevailed over Sta. Teresita Academy in the quarterfinals. The championship match is set 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Also in the finals with a twice-to-beat bonus is the Jimmy Dequilla-mentored USLS-IS high school boys’ volleyball team, who advanced into the finals by turning back St. Joseph School- La Salle, 25-23, 25-22, in the semifinals.

Silay City dominates
Area III athletic meet

The Silay City athletes captured the overall championship in both elementary and secondary levels of the 2013 Area III Athletic Meet held the previous weekend in E.B. Magalona town, a press release from Silay City Hall said.

The Silaynons earned a total of 250 points in the elementary competition to overtake Talisay City in the rankings and claim the championship, while Victorias City settled for third place honors.

In high school, Silay won the championship for the third straight year by earning 303 points, while Victorias City accumulated 228 points for second place and Murcia town, third with 222 points, the press release said.
