Barangay election a holiday

MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III has declared October 28 a nationwide special non-working holiday for the barangay elections, a Palace official said yesterday.

Aquino noted that it is important to give the people the fullest opportunity to participate in the elections and exercise their right to vote, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

“I would refer you to the Department of Labor and Employment on pay rules for special non-working holidays,” she added.

The President earlier directed law enforcement agencies and other offices to coordinate and cooperate with the Commission on Elections in ensuring free, orderly, honest, peaceful, and credible elections.*PNA
