Absolute beats Summit
in Fil-Sino AB cagefest

Absolute Drinking Water shattered the cloak of invincibility of Summit Water, 91-87, in the Filo-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Summit can still take the top spot at the end of the elimination if it wins its last game, otherwise, Absolute will be No. 1. as it ended its elimination round campaign with five wins and two losses.

Absolute overcame a 44-36 halftime deficit and leaned on Arnol Laureño's 23 second half points to will them to victory.

Michael Ang and Keith Banzon nailed two triple shots each apiece in the payoff quarter to lend their support to Laureño.

The second half output of Summit saw RJ Iligan drilling four triples for 12 points, while Beejay Paredes hitting 9 and Kieron Tan with 8 points.

But the absence of slotman Ritchie Militante proved to be a key factor as Laureño ran rings around his defender in the shaded area.

Laureño sizzled with 37 points, Devin Villacruz picked up 12, Ang and Nico Yap shot 10 points apiece, Banzon made 8, and Ardrian Ong had 6 points.

Kieron Tan and Emil Guanzon shared scoring honors with 19 points in a losing effort for Summit.

Meanwhile Tanduay Black improved their quarterfinals chances after slipping past Asahi Super Dry, 86-85.

Tanduay held a 84-73 lead in the fourth quarter, but had to scramble in the end when Asahi's Arvin Gustilo scattered nine straight points to cut the lead to two points with 50 seconds left.

Daniel Ong powered himself in the shaded área to give Tanduay Black a four-point lead with 20 seconds left.

Tanduay Black double teamed Gustilo forcing him to pass to an open Jolly Castillo, who nailed a triple with three seconds left. Black did not call timeout and Asahi was not able to foul as time expired.

Ryan ALegario paced Black with 18 points , Jose Miguel Montinola and Badong Eufre picked up 13 points apiece, Daniel Ong scored 12 , Johnnyson Yu contributed 11 points, and Charlton Ong with 8 points

Asahi showed up with six players and was led by Gustilo with 32 points, backstopped by Castillo with 22, Eugene Tsai 12, Rey Pandoro 8, Stephen Tan and Jeremy Coo with 6 points apiece.

Asahi finished its elimination round at 3-4, while Ice is at 2-4 with one game remaining. *
