PNoy signs law
pushed by Alvarez

President Benigno Aquino III Thursday signed into law the amendments to the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act as Republic Act 10630, Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6th District) said yesterday.

Alvarez, who was a co-author of the bill amending the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act in the House, said she was tasked by its principal author, the late Sorsogon Rep. Salvador “Sonny” Escudero, to see to its passage.

The Congressional Bicameral Committee report was adopted in the law, she said.

Alvarez headed the Lower House panel and Senator Francis Escudero the Senate panel in the bicameral committee commission discussions.

Under the amended law, “any person who exploits children for commission of crimes will be liable and the penalty in its maximum period will be imposed,” Alvarez said earlier. *CPG
