SU calls for flood donation

The Crisis Response and Management Team of Silliman University deployed yesterday a group that will bring SU’s initial donation to augment continuing relief operations for flood victims in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.

A letter from Cleonico Fontelo, vice president for Finance of SU, said thousands were evacuated yesterday during the flooding in Bayawan City and many are left homeless, and hundreds continue to stay in evacuation centers.

She added that they had sent their Volunteer Fire and Rescue Unit to Bayawan but it could not proceed because the roads were impassable.

SU appeals to all Sillimanians and to the public to donate, either in cash or in kind, canned goods, noodles, rice, biscuits and other essential food items for the flood victims.

The donations should be coursed through the SU Church, that is coordinating with the local United Church of Christ in the Philippines in Bayawan City for distribution of relief goods to the community. The SU Church can be contacted at (035) 422-6002 local 340, or (035) 422-8133.*RG
