Cobra, Creamy Delight post close win
in Fil-Sino Asia Brewery basketball tilt

Cobra Energy Drink got away with an 89-88 victory against Colt 45, while Creamy Delight Pasteurized Yogurt outscored Tanduay Ice in overtime, 98-96, in the recent match-up of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang gym.

Colt 45 was way ahead in the first half, posting a 16-point lead at halftime time, 46-30, with Chibun Uy scoring nine points and teammates Marc Lo and Robbie Jalando-on delivering seven points each.

But Cobra rallied in the third quarter and stunned Colt 45 with a 33-13 run to to grab the lead at 63-57 behind Rodel Canino’s nine points and the combined 15-point output from Richard Co, Jan Jan Young and Mark Binguan.

Colt 45 got back its bearing in the fourth quarter and once again took the lead with a 7-0 run and stay in front until the final minutes of the game.

With Colt ahead at 88-81, Cobra’s Franklin Madrid and Danny Boy Uy made a triple each and Mark Binguan sunk two free throws with 14 seconds remaining to complete the come-from-behind win.

Canino topscored for Cobra with 22 points, Madrid picked up 17, Danny Boy Uy hit 9, Binguan with 8 points, Co contributed 7, and Joseph Tiu with 6 points.

Jalando-on led Colt with 14 points, Chibon Uy added 13, Derek Sibug and Marc Lo with 12 points each, and Edward Uy with 10 points.

Meanwhile, despite playing with only five players in the first three quarters, Creamy Yogurt held their ground and kept the game close against Tanduay Ice.

In the fourth quarter, Yan Yan Dy ‘s arrival boosted Creamy Yogurt as he provided the needed rebound and defense and battled Tanduay Ices’ slotman Brian Coo in the post.

Clarence Quingco’s free throw force the overtime at 90-all.

Raul Javelosa and Quingco put Creamy on top for good in the extra period as Ice played catch-up until the final buzzer.

Javelosa exploded for 44 points, Aaron Arroyo added 20, Ralph Ong scored 18, and Quingco finished with 11 points for the Yogurt team.

Brian Coo paced Colt with 28 points, Carlo Chu churned in 26, Monroe Chua scored 12, Simon Tan and Richard Uy with 8 points each.

Creamy Yogurt ended their elimination round campaign with a 2-5 win-loss card, but will still force a three-way tie for the last quarterfinals slot if Tanduay Ice and Black fail in their last game.

The top two teams will advance to the semifinals while Teams 3, 4 , 5 and 6 will play in a knockout match.*
