A minimum of 70,000 business establishments will be subjected to social labor audit next year to ensure compliance with the new labor standards, Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said during the Red Card to Child Labor press conference yesterday.
As the labor law compliance takes effect in 2014, Baldoz said they will also ensure that there are no minors working in any establishment in the country.
Baldoz said one company has been declared by the department as child labor free company, the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp.

The Bacolod City Legal Office is ready to demolish the carnival set that is blocking the rear passage to the Commission on Elections anytime, City Legal Officer Sarah Villamor, said yesterday.
She said that Bacolod election officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia has been complaining about the operation of the carnival as it obstructs the way to the agency.
Villamor said they are coordinating with Comelec on the schedule of the removal.

Personal remittances from overseas Filipinos for August rose year-on-year by 7.4 percent to $2.1 billion, the fifth consecutive month in 2013 that personal remittances exceeded the $2 billion mark, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Officer-In-Charge Diwa Guinigundo said in a press release posted in the bank's website.
For the period January-August 2013, personal remittances from OFs posted a growth of 6.6 percent from the year-ago level to reach $16 billion.
Growth in remittances was sustained by the 5.5 percent growth in transfers from land-based OF workers with work contracts of one year or more, whose remittances comprised more than three-fourths (75.3 percent) of the total.
