Negros Occidental was given the Top Performing Province in Organic Agriculture Program Implementation Award Thursday as a highlight of the 10 th National Organic Agriculture Congress held Oct. 17-19 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, a press release from the Capitol said.
Fourth district Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Victor Javellana, chair of the SP Committee on Agriculture, and Engr. Igmedio Tabianan, chief of the Provincial Agriculturist's Office, received the award and the P3 million cash prize on behalf of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Negros Occidental, that was cited as the top performer in organic agriculture for the Visayas cluster, shared centerstage with the rice-producing province, Nueva Ecija, the awardee for Luzon, and the diversified Agusan del Sur in Mindanao, the press release said.
OPA's Armigenia Benedicto, agricultural center head and concurrent research and development laboratory in-charge, also took the Best Focal Person in Organic Agriculture medal, while Melba Banares of the Barangay Daan Banwa organic village in Kabankalan City, was adjudged Best Agricultural Extension Worker in the implementation of organic agriculture.
Each won P30,000 as cash reward, the press release said.*
