NDF-Negros calls
for PDAF abolition

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The National Democratic Front in Negros Island yesterday called for the immediate abolition of the controversial Priority Development Fund and urged the government to re-channel it to basic social services that would benefit the people.

NDF spokesperson and former priest Frank Fernandez said in a statement he issued that the PDAF of President Benigno Aquino III must also be abolished.

Fernandez said the P25 billion pork barrel funds of the senators and congressmen is just a little amount compared to the PDAF of Aquino, which is about P1.3 to P1.5 trillion that he can utilize at his own discretion.

He claimed that this fund is being used by this administration to ensure its political interests at the expense of the working laborers, teachers, policemen and soldiers.

Fernandez added that this amount is substantial to build school and hospital facilities, free hospitalization and housing program.

Meanwhile, the NDF also said that Aquino has a lot of explaining to do about the recent discovery of the bonuses of the board of directors of the Social Security System amounting to millions of pesos, while most of its members are receiving meager benefits.

He also slammed Secretary Dinky Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the purchase of expensive cellular phones which staff members of the agency used for the monitoring of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, instead of using the money to help the typhoon victims in Davao.*APN
