‘PHL among top countries
with improved biz regulation'

The Philippines is among the top 10 most improved economies in business regulation over the past year in the latest edition of the World Bank's Doing Business Survey.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. issued the statement yesterday after reports that "the country is among the 10 best economies that has made inroads in making it easier to do business in the past year."

The World Bank Group's "Doing Business" report released on Tuesday said the Philippines improved its ranking by 30 places following a series of reform measures implemented by the Aquino government.

Mayor willing to help
in trike route row

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday said he is willing to help resolve the issue raised by the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center on the implementation of City Ordinance 640 extending the routes of tricycles plying the city's main thoroughfares.

UNDOC Secretary General Diego Malacad had said earlier that their group is asking for a moratorium on the implementation of the ordinance authored by former Councilor Dindo Ramos claiming that it needs further study.

Malacad said its implementation has resulted in the overlapping of tricycle routes and often leads to commotions among the drivers. Councilor Wilson Gamboa, chairman of the city council's Committee on Transportation, however, said granting a moratorium is not possible and that it should be revised instead.

Vendors given special permits

The Bacolod City government has issued special permits to flower vendors at the Bacolod City Public Plaza from October 30 to November 1.

Evelynda Gerogalin, Lincensing Officer lll, said yesterday that the flower vendors were charged P200 per stall and will be allowed to sell at the plaza along San Juan, Gatuslao and Gonzaga streets. A resolution allows them to sell flowers at the plaza during All Saints Day and All Souls Day, she said.

She, however, said she does not have the total number of flower vendors because it is executive assistant Rocky Puentevella who is in charge of that.
