Former kagawad dies in mishap

A former barangay kagawad died and his rider was injured when they met an accident Tuesday night in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, reports said.

The driver identified as Efren Panaguiton sustained a head injury and died in the ambulance while being rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, records show.

His rider, Elizabeth Garcia, 48, who was also injured, is now being treated at the hospital. The victims were not wearing protective helmets when the accident happened, reports said.

Investigation showed that they were traveling south of the Talisay highway at about 11 p.m. when they hit the public utility jeepney parked beside the road that was being fixed by the driver, Jonel Parreño, who had failed, however to put up an early warning device.

Meanwhile in Bacolod, a man believed to be a victim of a hit-and-run accident was also injured.

The police identified the victim as Harold Ginobata, 28, who was also not wearing a protective helmet when his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle with plate number JJT601, whose driver fled after the accident, at Lacson Street in Bacolod, the police said.*SGG
