Prices of commercial rice across Western Visayas continue to be abnormally high with Regular Milled Rice hovering between P36-40 a kilo.
This is because peak harvest season has not yet arrived and begins on the last week of September, Agriculture Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales said.
Although some areas in the region like Pototan and San Enrique towns in Iloilo have started to harvest, Nacionales said it is still not enough to satisfy the consumption requirements of the populace, and inasmuch as the bulk of freshly-cut palay is still stored in warehouses waiting for the milling process.

Officers of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by Frank Carbon are boosting Bacolod City and Negros Occidental's investment attraction at the 3-day 22nd Visayas Business Conference that started yesterday at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center in Iloilo City, a press release from MBCCI said.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog welcomed the delegates from provinces of the Visayas to the conference hosted by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Iloilo headed by Joe Marie Agriam.
Also present were Regional PCCI Governor for Region 6, Roberto Montelibano, and 22nd business conference Chairman and PCCI vice president for Visayas, Francis Monera.
New Caltex station opens
A new Caltex station was opened at Lacson Street corner Rizal Avenue in Bacolod City recently.
Caltex marketer Southern Cross Distribution Inc. owns and operates the new Caltex station and two others in Bacolod City, a press release from the firm said.
