Probation aide charged for
soliciting bribe money

A volunteer probation aide was arrested Thursday after an entrapment operation in Brgy. Canmoros, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, for alleged direct bribery.

Senior Inspector Albert Sy, Binalbagan police chief, yesterday identified the suspect, who is now facing a complaint for estafa through swindling before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office, as Marlyn Mendieta,49, a volunteer probation aide at the Himamaylan City Parole and Probation Office.

Binalbagan police investigation showed that Milagros Delejero complained that a probation employee had asked for money from her, in exchange for not pressing charges for a drug related case against her son, who was previously released, on orders of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office.

Sy said this prompted them to coordinate with the victim, in staging an entrapment operation, also in coordination with Canmoros barangay chairman Ernie Sarad, who served as a witness.

After the complainant handed the marked P600 to the suspect, Sy said they immediately arrested Mendieta, who is now in jail.*GPB
