IDC, USLS split top honors
in Bro. Ceci Invitational tilt

Iloilo Doctors College men’s team beat University of St. La Salle in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-23 to capture the title, while the Lady Stingers claimed the crown in the women’s division by overpowering University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 25-7, 25-15 and 25-18 as the three-day volleyball spectacle in Class A men and women’s division of the 5th Bro. Ceci Invitational Volleyball Tournament ended yesterday at the USLS College Covered Court.

The visiting men’s team from Iloilo advanced into the championship yesterday after topping the single round-robin elimination with a dominant performance against Roxas City’s Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, 25-16, 25-8, and 25-10, and against UNO-R, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-20.

The five-setter elimination match between IDC and USLS men’s team, was a preview of the final round as the Iloilo City-based team took the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-20 but USLS fought hard and won the next two sets 26-24 and 25-20 to force a fifth and final set that ended 15-13 in favor of IDC.

In the women’s division, the Lady Stingers came out on top of the four-team cast with an unbeaten record in the elimination.

The host team beat UNO-R, 25-10, 28-26, 25-17 then breezed through its second assignment against Foundation University, 25-8, 25-8 and 25-12 before sweeping the elimination against IDC, 25-11, 25-12, and 26-24.

Meanwhile, Silay City clinched the title in Women’s Class B in a thrilling five-setter championship game against Sabado Club, 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 27-25, and 15-9.

It was a come-from-behind win for the Silaynons who needed to beat twice the Sabado Club in the final round.*NAB
