Ateneo boosts Final 4 bid

MANILA - The Ateneo Blue Eagles got away with a 77-72 win against University of the East Red Warriors to grab a Final Four berth in the UAAP men's basketball tournament at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City yesterday.

Kiefer Ravena once again carried the Blue Eagles on his shoulders as he  finished with a season-high 22 points. Chris Newsome added 18 points and eight rebounds to improve the Eagles’ record to 7-5 along with UST.

Ateneo outscored UE in turnover points, 18-10, and outpaced the Warriors, 22-7, in fast break points.

The Warriors suffered a hard blow late in the fourth quarter after losing Roi Sumang, who injured his right leg. Sumang led the Warriors with 27 points and four rebounds in the losing effort.

The Red Warriors are now eliminated from the Final Four contention with a 5-7 record. *PNA
