Chu leads Tanduay Ice to
1st win in Fil-Sino tilt

A 15-point output from Carlo Chu in the second quarter allowed Tanduay Ice to firm up their hold in the lead and eventually tame Colt 45, 83-70, for their first win in the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Gym, Friday night.

Also getting into the win column was Creamy Delight Pasteurized Yogurt, who streaked past Tanduay Black, 90-85, in the other game.

Chu, who finished with 21 points, acted as leader for Tanduay Ice as his second quarter sizzling performance allowed the team to post a 47-37 lead at the break.

He got a strong support from teammates Joel Masadya and Pao Pao Lim, who delivered six points each in the first quarter, while Allen Uy and Edward Uy pooled their efforts for a 15-point output for Colt in the first half.

Masadya and Lim sustained their dominant presence at low post during the third quarter and delivered a combined 15 points for Tanduay Ice, while Colt 45 was limited to six points.

Marc Lo and Robbie Jalando-on tried to reverse the outcome of the game with a combined five triples between them for Colt 45, but Tanduay Ice will not be denied of its first win in the tournament.

In the other game, Bol Manaloto scored 25 points and played the hero in the final minutes as Creamy Delight also registered their first win in the tournament at the expense of Tanduay Black.

The Tanduay team was leading in the first half with Jose Miguel Montinola scoring 14 points and Charlton Ong with 13, while Yogurt relied on Manaloto’s 14 points and the combined 18-point output from Ralph Ong and Clarence Quingco.

With both teams trading shots in the third quarter, Tanduay managed to post a one-point lead at 68-67 going into the final canto.

Manaloto and Arroyo scored in the final minutes to secure the win even as Montinola connected with a triple to trim the lead.

Supporting Manaloto at the Yogurt side were Quingco with 17 points and Ralph Ong with 14, Aaroyo added 12, Raul Javelosa with 11, and Livingstone Ang with 6 points.

Montinola topscored with 23 points for Tanduay Black as Eufre backed him up with 16 points.*NAB
