A man, believed to be suffering from a nervous breakdown after his wife left him, allegedly set on fire their house at Hacienda Santa Teresita, Brgy. Dos Hermanas in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Sunday.
Reports from the Talisay City Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire was set at the living room of the house, allegedly by Rolando Ponclara, 54, a former overseas Filipino worker.
The BFP received a call at about 12:55 p.m. and put the fire out at about 1:30 p.m., records show.
The daughters of Ponclara, aged 30 and 21, whose names were not disclosed, said their father poured three liters of gasoline on their living room and lit it. The fire caused about P120,000 worth of damage.
Fire Officer 1 Jolan Villaruz said that, four days before the blaze, Ponclara had also attempted to burn their house. He was depressed and was always angry and confused, reports added.
In a television interview later, Ponclara admitted that he set the fire on his house because he was angry with his wife.
The family is not interested to file arson charges against Ponclara, Villaruz added.*SGG
