Army puts 90 brgys
on poll watch
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Army will keep a close watch on 90 hinterland barangays in Negros Occidental during the October 28 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, Col. Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander, said yesterday.

Aying said the 90 barangays are considered Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-affected.

Of the 90, less than one third  are highly affected by the rebels, he added.

The  rebel-affected  barangays are mostly in the  first, fifth and sixth districts, Aying said.

The Army will deploy additional forces in such areas, although the police will field representatives in every voting barangay, he said.

COMELEC chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said the  filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the  2013 Barangay and  SK elections will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and  17.

Aying said they expect the rebels to field candidates in some areas.*CPG
