Wag the dog
Wow! Filipinos have really become so cynical nowadays.
When the trouble in Zamboanga erupted, some folks said they “smelled” shades of “Wag the Dog”, a Hollywood movie shown back in 1997, starring Robert de Niro and Dustin
Hoffman. The plot was about what happened when the US government was in crisis from a sex scandal. The government’s top PR man, De Niro, hired a Hollywood film producer, Hoffman, to construct a “fake war” with a foreign country (Albania), to try to take the public attention away from the sex scandal.
Isn’t it ironic that some people would even suspect that the Zamboanga crisis could also be a “cover-up”, so that the public attention would be distracted from the pork barrel scam?
Hmmmm. Methinks it is too farfetched.
By the way, to “wag the dog” means “to purposely divert attention from what would otherwise be of greater importance, to something else of lesser significance. By doing so, the lesser-significant event is catapulted into the limelight, drowning proper attention to what was originally the more important issue.” Hmmmm, verrry interrresting, no?
The Zumba class of Joanne Visitacion at Eclipse was full house on the trial class. Everyone was trying to get a spot in her class. The Eclipse studio was ultra modern, complete with laser lights and sounds that made you feel you were in a disco. All the participants had so much fun being trained by certified instructors with top-of-the-line equipment.
By the way, it’s Zumba Mega Jam on September 26, and Zumba International is sending Samuel Salazar, an instructor from New York, who is the trainer of superstar Beyonce and other celebrities. This event is for the benefit of kids with cancer at Suntown Camp Foundation. For more information, call 0917-3000594.*
