Bacolod athletes assured of
Batang Pinoy nat’l slots

Commissioner Jolly Gomez of the Philippine Sports Commission said Bacolod City athletes are assured of advancing to the finals in the Batang Pinoy national championship in November.

Gomez told reporters covering the Visayas qualifying round of the Batang Pinoy in Maasin City, Leyte yesterday that the Bacolod City athletes automatically qualify to the national championship regardless of their performance in the qualifier.

Bacolod sent 41 athletes to Maasin who will compete in table tennis, boxing, athletics, weightlifting, basketball, badminton and swimming.

Ginebra secures q’finals berth

MANILA - Crowd-favorite Barangay Ginebra survived repeated rallies of Talk ‘N Text enroute for a 110-102 victory to clinch the remaining quarterfinals slot of the PBA Governor’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City last night.

The Gin Kings scored only two field goals in the final six minutes but came out with steady hands from the foul line to escape the win that sealed the eight-team quarterfinals cast.

Mark Caguiao completed a four-point play and import Dior Lowhorn added two from LA Tenorio’s pass to give Ginebra it’s biggest lead, 70-49, early in the third quarter.

Silverado grabs lead in
Sharp bowling tilt

Silverado ASSFBI  lead  in the premiere division, while Sharp Aquos II  tops Class B of the Friendship Cup Open and Non-rated Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

St. Joseph – La Salle Alumni Association topped the women’s group.

Headed by Cecil Ramon Silverio, the Silverado bowlers composed of Norman Pineda, Cezar Sumaylo and Ronald Fernandez posted 1,090 points to overtake former No.1 Sharp Aquos of Irne Diaz with  3,760.
