The city administration is quite satisfied with the performance of Metrowaste Solidwaste Management Corporation in terms of garbage collection and there is a big possibility that its contract with the city will be extended, Bacolod City Administrator Rolando Villamor said.
Villamor, however, said they are giving Metrowaste a “satisfactory” rating which is far from being perfect.
While Mayor Monico Puentevella may decide to extend the services of Metrowaste, the committee in-charge of garbage collection will evaluate its performance, he said.
Villamor said the committee will also determine if there is a need for another bidding to be conducted for garbage collection.
But for now, a contract extension for Metrowaste will have to be determined especially with the scheduled MassKara Festival and the Christmas holidays where a huge deluge of garbage is expected, he said.
Villamor said they have noted an improvement in the services of Metrowaste but there are still barangays in Bacolod City that continue to complain about uncollected garbage.
He said the committee is currently studying long range plans in addressing the garbage problem.
The contract of Metrowaste will expire in November, eight months after the previous administration awarded it to the company.*CGS
