Lopingco scores
67 in NHOJs victory

Nico Lopingco felt at home in the three-point area as he unloaded 21 triples and finished with 67 points to lead NHOJs Sportswear to a staggering 143-93 victory Friday night against Pilmico/Santo in Class A of the Fil-Sino Inter-Company Fellowship Cup at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Also getting into the win column was Marby Arcade La Salle as the team bounced back from an opening day loss by beating 365 Modern Café, 120-107, in triple overtime for another high-scoring ballgame.

Lopingco was not the only one with hot hands Friday night as teammate Carl John Oquindo tallied 30 points for NHOJs.

The Sportswear makers took the first quarter, 31-23, to upstage the combined 21 points from Pilmico/Salto duo of Emil Guanzon and Joel Masadia.

NHOJs pulled away for good in the second quarter as Lopingco started hitting his mark from the three-point region for a 79-46 halftime advantage.

Lopingco kept on draining triples in the second half with Danny Boy Uy converting three of his own three-point attempts, while Pilmico/Salto tried to keep pace with 10 treys as a team.

Lopingco and Oquindo's sizzling performance for NHOJs was complemented by Glin Ortaliz who finished with 12 points while Uy added 11, and Chris Javelosa with 10 points.

Guanzon finished 29 points, including seven triples for Pilmico/Salto, while Masadia added 22, Richard Co scored 16, Arvin Chua hit 9 points, and Siopao Dichavez had 8 points.

Meanwihle, 365 Modern Café could not hold on to their 20-point lead in the third quarter as Ritchie Militante and Oliver Manaloto combined for 17 points in the payoff quarter to lead Marby Arcade and force an overtime at 75-all.

Both teams remained in deadlock after two more extra periods at 86-all and 101-all.

In the third overtime, 365 Modern Café's offense faltered while Derek Sibug, Rey Pandoro, and Manaloto anchored Marby's offense en route to victory.

Café took a 47-29 lead at the break behind Michael Ang's four triples and Ryan ALegario's nine points even as Mark Binguan led Marby with 14 points.

365 Modern Café was still in front by 20 points at the midpoint of the third quarter but the dwindled as Marby fought back and cut the deficit to 59-51 going to the fourth quarter.

Binguan led Marby with 37 points, including nine triples, Ritchie Militante picked up 25 markers, Manaloto hit 20 points, Mark Velez contributed 9, Sibug delivered 8, and Pao Pao Lim shot 7 points.

Michael Ang led 365 Modern Café with 25 points, Robbie Jalando-on added 23, Mark Lo with 12, Livingstone Ang scored 10, and Ralph Ong shot 8 points.*NAB
