Toby's, DRJ to dispute crown
in Ayala 2 nd Conference finals

Toby's will face DRJ Wellness at the start of their best-of-three finals in the 2 nd Conference of the Ayala Basketball Club at Northpoint in Talisay City at 7 p.m. today.

Toby's ousted three-conference titlist Bar 21 via a 56-55 squeaker to keep its record clean while DRJ Wellness clobbered MKK/Doromal Seeds, 73-50, en route to their championship series.

The league drew six teams, including Spartans and Kaya, which got the exit ax in the earlier round.

Seeded No. 3, DRJ crushed the No. 2- rated MKK behind the efforts of Popoy Jamero, who scored 12 points.

The DRJ dribblers, who all contributed points in their semifinal match, throttled MKK chief gunners Tommy Andren and Willy Dasal and limited them to 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Chac Mirano and Giancarlo Alojado combined for 17 points to beef up the campaign of DRJ, which soared to a 13-point margin after a tightly-fought first quarter and later padded the lead to as many as 26 points.

In the first game, Bar 21 threatened to hand Toby's its first loss of the tournament after a big comeback but it failed to keep the steam rolling even after leading by three with two minutes remaining and succumbed to turnovers in the final stretch.

Filemon Banay led Toby's with 16 points and got scoring help from Jake DelaPaz with 8 while Juan Miguel Golez topscored for Bar 21 with 12 points as Philip Abong, Dante Ma, and Tad Caperonce combined for 25 points.*AVDC
